Jeremy Biggs, President and CAO of Cumberland Medical Center
Covenant Health has named Jeremy Biggs, vice president of operations for the health system, to be president and chief administrative officer at Cumberland Medical Center, effective March 1, 2014. He will succeed Ed Anderson, who has served in various leadership roles at the hospital since 1992, including serving as hospital president and CEO, and as a member of Cumberland’s Board of Directors.
“Throughout his years of leadership, Ed Anderson has overseen the expansion of services and medical staff, and the implementation of new services and facility improvements,” said Anthony L. Spezia, Covenant Health president and CEO. “We greatly appreciate his service to Cumberland Medical Center and to Crossville and the surrounding communities. We look forward to the hospital’s future progress under the leadership of Jeremy Biggs.”
Biggs has most recently served as chief administrative officer of Thompson Cancer Survival Center, which provides outpatient cancer services at locations in Knox, Anderson, Roane and Sevier counties, and which operates CMC’s Regional Cancer Center. In addition, Biggs has been the lead administrator for the merger between Cumberland and Covenant Health. As a Covenant Health executive, he has also served as president and CAO of Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System in Morristown.
Biggs has been with Covenant Health since 2011. Prior to that time he was president of Mercy Medical Center North in Knoxville. He also served in positions of administrative leadership at St. Mary’s Health System and St. Mary’s Medical Center of Campbell County.
“Cumberland Medical Center is known for the important role it plays in providing excellent care to people in Crossville and the surrounding Cumberland Plateau region,” Biggs said. “At Covenant Health, we are very pleased to have the dedicated employees and affiliated physicians of Cumberland Medical Center as part of the health system. We will accomplish many great things together, and I am honored to be serving as Cumberland’s new chief administrator.”
Biggs is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, which presented him with an “Early Career Healthcare Executive” Regent’s Award. He is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and East Tennessee Healthcare Executives, serving as president of that organization in 2007. He was named to the Greater Knoxville Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” leadership list in 2008, and was recognized in a Becker’s Hospital Review article, “10 Hospital CEOs 40 and Younger.” He has served on several community boards.
Originally from Oak Ridge, Biggs earned a master’s degree in health administration from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Tennessee. He and his wife Whitney, who is from Knoxville, have two children.
Monty Scott, Covenant Health’s vice president of operations for Covenant Medical Management (CMM), will assume the role of interim administrator at Thompson Cancer Survival Center in addition to his current duties. Scott leads operations activities such as contract negotiations, productivity, compensation, and quality for CMM’s 150 employed providers in over 45 locations.
